There are really only 6 layers.One of them is just the flat white background, and the other 5 are the overlaying vector layers that make up the face. At the end though I doubled up the 5 vector layers and offset them to give it some more density, so there are actually 11 layers used if you include the background.
It took about an hour I guess. It's the same techniques I often use to make these, except I put raster masks onto all of the vector layers and filled them with a stripe, then rotated the raster masks to create the crosshatching.
