
I am having trouble sorting my sandy loams from my loamy sands. I will be a laughing stock.

The soil texture depnds on the relative proportion of clay, sand and silt - loamy sand has much more sand than silt and clay but is basically a sandy soil, sandy loam has a bit more sand that silt and clay, but is basically a loam - see the good old soil triangle: www.uwsp.edu/geo/faculty/ritter/glossary/s_u/soil_texture_triangle.html

Can a sandy loam be used as a substitute for loamy sand? At 3pm on any given tuesday? When wet? If it is sad?
