But that is only half of it. I've noticed some things that can
really help on these morph thingies. Feature matching, like
the eyes and guard nodes around lumps, can really help.

I've mentioned xmorph.sourceforge.net/ before too.
But that is crude in comparison. What have you been using?

It doesn't try to do too much for you, and also allows you to zoom in for great accuracy.
