# When using gimp , I always have TaskManager running to monitor cpu useage
If you interupt Gimp when it's busy doing something, it can sometimes crash. Some jobs take up to 45+ seconds (eg converting an animation to a gif)

# I meant creating an animated gif from multiple layers
but Gimp will split video files (and small clips from a larger video file) into multiple images and you can then convert them to an animated gif

Open "new"
Click "video"
click "split video into frames"

# Gimp will also do screen captures
so if you only want to grab a few frames from a video
play the video in any player and freeze it on the desired frame
click "file"
click "acquire"
click "screenshot"...etc

step player to next frame and grab again
