There's a certain species of carrier bag that greatly resembles a kingfisher, too.
I saw a real, non-plastic kingfisher yesterday. Lovely, it was. But for the rest of my walk I got all excited at every sighting of a blue bag.

I know exactly what you mean! Happened a lot when I was in Glasgow. I remember one time at Baron's Haugh RSPB when a guy was happy as anything about his first Kingfisher sighting. I had a look through the scope and it was a piece of blue rope around a post...
