I'm all for the HSEIt's the Health and Safety people within other organisations, both public sector and private sector, that are the problem. The HSE gives sensible guidance on how to be safe. Internal Health and Safety departments just go waaaaaay over the top.
That conkers story was a prime example; the HSE never objected to conkers, it was the head mistress of a primary school that banned it. The HSE got the blame. The following year, just to show what good sports they are they sponsored the World Conker Championships.
