# My cheap freeview box remote has a 'PAUSE' button.
It freezes the image on the screen, but then when you press it again it just returns to live tv... can someone explain the point of this to me?

I used to have a Ferguson VCR from the 1980s that had a digital frame store. Putting the deck into 'Dig. mode' let you do all manner of pointless cheap 'effects' such as pixellization, Posterise, Picture in picture and mosaic mode. It also had 'Pic Freeze' which basically digitised the image and holds it on screen while the tape still runs, so should you need a perfect freeze-frame from a tape without wearing the tape out, you could.

I imagine the dev team thought people might want to take pictures of the screen or something.

I'd advise you to treat your pause button as such.

I'd imagine.
