Because children are stupid, uppity and precociousAs such, they generally won't go to see 'old' films, so if they 'remake' them, they're more attractive, they can make more money out of the same francise, and generally buying the rights is cheaper than employing scripwriters and all that bollocks to come up with something original and/or interesting.
