Trying to make rules like this is the quickest way to stifle fun. There is no reason at all why it wouldn't be ok to post new links as replies.

I can't say I liked watching a new person getting harshed out about a non existant rule.
It really isn't that difficult to see that they've tried to have fun on the links board, and they only posted one thread on the subject. Why would people get upset about posting the links as replies versus new links posted in the original message?
If I'd just joined up, possibly after lurking for a long time and got told off for that, I probably wouldn't bother coming back.
