I think the spectacle of current servicemen putting on their best uniforms and discharging rifle and cannon
are contributing to my confusion of 'celebrating' and 'marking'.
It's like 'commemorating' a child hit by a car outside a school by asking people to turn up in 4x4s and do donuts around the churchyard (in motorway gearbox mode, obviously).
