Oh that's how they work. Assumed it was some sort of fly grinder.
Do you just keep them trapped until they resort to cannibalism?

I've got one of those electric tennis racket deals.
2 AA batteries is enough to cause a fly to explode.
The smell of burnt flies is rather unpleasant though.

im not sure if its a good idea to trap lots of flies in the same place - they could be radicalised in there
