When a situation causes tension, not relieved by fight or flight responses, laughter is a common response.
Many forms of humour in humans are abstractions in verbal or written form which are difficult to interpret, the juxtapositioning of culturally inappropriate words in a situation, may lead to cognitive dissonance and amusement or laughter; This relieves tension as well as demonstrating verbal and social skills to others, which can result in sexytiem if you're lucky.
It is also more memorable and thus useful in advertising.
