to suggest that the majority of the sales of this kind of thing are to gullible tourists?

but all of the people we saw going around in BNKIN PARK t-shirts (and there were many, as well as at least one KNKIN PARK one) appeared to be locals, and gave every indication of being blissfully unaware of the errors.
An American friend who lived there asked the KNKIN PARK wearer where he'd got it, and he confirmed it was from Taobao, the wellspring of cheap misspelled knockoffs. She ordered one for herself, and was disappointed when it arrived spelled correctly.
