There are new cases of Bubonic Plague every year, all around the globe.
Even for the BBC, this is scraping the barrel a bit. That brain eating microbe looks promising though!

The article even says there were 300 cases in Madagascar a few years back. The US averages 7 cases a year.
It's nasty, but it's a disease we know how to stop spreading and have effective treatments for.
