I wanted to like this, but as someone else points out, there is no real punchline.
I suppose it's just a list really. Rabelais was celebrated for his lists. Maybe they were seen as funny at the time because no one had seen a list of rude words written down before. They're not funny now. Nor is this. The grain of truth it contains is just too depressing.
