He's not wrong about the new game mechanic and the lack of variety.
I would have thought that the lack of variation is down to selling the better version of the existing, popular toy and saving money by not re-inventing the wheel, just hiring other cg artists to paint it a different colour. Rather than any active aversion to some change.
