I tend to think we find models more satisfying to the eye than 3d animation, being real surfaces
we have 126 million receptor cells in the eye, give or take, it's a very sophisticated bit of evolved kit, and despite the advances CGI isn't quite there yet. the big imperial ship passing overhead at the start of the first star wars still holds up well because it was a model, not a simulation
