I suspect that he threw a bit of a creative tantrum when Macondo didn't make it big (because, let's be honest, they weren't very good), then spent the next few years thinking "fuckit" and began producing low-effort novelty tracks tailored for the anti-establishment types that would absolutely eat that shit up by the bowlful. He's the musical version of a failed actor re-establishing themselves as a children's entertainer.
He upset that cunt Ladbaby, though. So his career hasn't been a complete failure, I suppose.
