In some of those people's defence, their phone *is* their newspaper and book these days.
Complaining that everyone is on their phone instead of reading the local rag is a bit like complaining that everyone has eschewed the horse and cart in favour of the autocar.

There’s probably a few, but it’s more that looking at computers at all was kind of a niche activity
a straw poll of the tram im on now it’s mostly Facebook scrolling and games that aren’t really much above the c64 in complexity, and one bloke near me looking at a vid of kids at the beach which I hope are his.
