It's pretty awful to be honest, are ukuleles supposed to go out of tune about halfway through a song?

Yes, when the strings are new.
You just need to keep playing it - it'll go out of tune more slowly once the strings are stretched a bit.
Oh, and buying good quality strings is a good idea. They aren't expensive, about £6 a set.
(Thus speaks the man with a £10 ukulele with £6 strings that he lost interest in after a week)

I'm already finding it a bit better now actually.
I guess I've been spoilt by guitars and those metal strings they put on 'em. And I suspect the tuning pegs on a £200 guitar are probably a little better than those of a £20 ukulele.
