But o a serious note. Tesco are cnuts and this has the hallmarks of one of their little tricks.
A couple of years ago it got revealed that a petrol station that had closed and then converted ino a carpet place was actualy owned by Tesco and they were leasing the site until a wait time had expired so that they could then develope the property. Tesco failed to get the permit.
I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason the site has gone derilict is because it was owned by Tesco and left that way until they could try and get a store there.

It seems to me that owning some land and having a business on it isn't inherently evil. Perhaps there's more to your story, but I would like more details please.
