it's not just legs that get blown off. I work in the operating theatre that gets these young army guys back from OpHerrick; and there's a less than statistically normal number of gonads on my patients.
The IEDs often use the old WW2 trick of deliberately sending shrapnel up to the genitals. Often the lower legs can be almost untouched whilst managing to completely emasculate these squadies.
Not funny. Not cool. But even as a big hairy man, and as an ex-reg myself, I'm regularly brought to tears over the future lives of these chaps.
I don't normal talk about my feelings, so sorry for the downer...
