Ah, Laulupidu! An amazing event; happens every 5 years (next one is 2014).
There's an amazing documentary all about the Soviet occupation of Estonia called 'The Singing Revolution'; they literally regained their independence through the power of song. Almost like a perfect sequel to the Sound of Music!

I think the political instability in the Soviet Union might have had something to do with it ;-).
