I don't think I'll bother with the electronics; if anything I'll stick one of those LED belt buckles in the front.
The chrome effect is something I've been worrying about. I was thinking of getting it vacuum formed if spray paint won't work.

I was planning on buying a bike helmet and building around that. I acquired a 'net' of Thomas' helmet which I can take pieces from and transfer them to linoleum or mat board :)
