Had a discussion with a mate about the origins of gay camp t'other day whilst stoned
as is often the best way, and basically decided it largely comes down to str8 guy homophobic bullying.
Like if a guy says 'You've got a high voice' in a threatening 'and are going to die for it' way in some public scenario, what's the best way to deal with it? Saying sorry, trying to 'butch up' or in any way attempting to make amends for your 'sin' is only going to 'prove the point' and invite the violence, but going 'Ooh yes deary!' and mocking them camply is either gonna end up making everyone laugh or him disgusted to the point of buggering off, which HAS to work better!
So in conclusion, very overtly str8 overly macho guys who feel the need to act out about it are most likely the very reason why every gay guy they ever meet is so sickeningly camp and all in their face about it, they create one another whenever they meet up!
