The law is a joke - it shouldnt be a criminal offence to hurt someone's feelings.
By all means, his club should sack him / dock his wages / send him on equality training. His sponsors may want to think twice about renewing their contracts too, but unless he's threatened violence or committed a sustained campaign of harassment he shouldn't be in court for something he's said.
