I have heard a lot of people crowing about it.
It shows that his first inclination isn't to blow smoke up the hiney, but to tell the truth. I understand it could have been handled better, but it's also kinda refreshing when one is used to a politician that will say anything all the while knowing he doesn't believe a word he's saying.
