Is it really Hacking though?
I know its dodgy as f*ck to listen to peoples answer machine by using the default password but to describe it as "hacking" gives them too much credit. It's also impossible to believe that they were the only publication doing it.

Guessing a password, then using it to access information.
Sounds like a type hacking to me. I don't see not using software to guess the password makes any difference

Maybe "snooping" would be a better word in this case.
But I guess it's the legal definition which they go by.

I once guessed the login details for a porn megasite called Karas Adult Playground
seriously, the username and password were qwerty and zxcvbn. Told my brother and my housemate about it - it continued to work for at least 2 years.
