You can beat most phobias by "flooding" your exposure to the subject.
Go pick up the spider and keep it on your hand.
Guarantee within a few minutes you'll lose your fear.
I lost my fear when I got bitten by one.

I would add the warning that if it looks like a giant hose spider best not to pick it up as they do bite apparently.
