I read somewhere they were OK with solo projects
Whether or not that's actually true, some bands improve when their frontmen pursue solo projects. For example, Gruff Rhys' solo work (which I love) abstracted some of the Scott-Walkerish whimsy from the Super Furry Animals, leaving much meatier, chunkier material to shine through on Hey Venus and Dark Days / Light Years.
Anyway, Radiohead band members have been doing solo projects for maybe a decade: Bodysong by Jon Greenwood came out in 2003.
