
A gun ban might not remove all guns from criminals immediately - although the number in circulation would inevitably drop over time - but it would make it a lot harder for mentally ill people to get their hands on them.

i'm glad we have very tight gun laws in the UK, but people still get shot here quite often, plus three massacres in my lifetime. i just think that it's a change that will never come in the US for historical, cultural, political and practical reasons. any significant change is destined to fail in a similar way to prohibition, which is a shit comparison etc etc

and subsequent evaluations over a certain time period, much like we have in the UK, would be a better proposition than a blanket ban.
