Yep.
I can trust that account, hands down. The DM makes it clear that this was merely a case of colleagues gently and very occasionally joshing with him. Definitely nothing else to it but that.
We know he wasn't really 'bullied' and didn't really suffer 'depression' because these words are in scare quotes.
