Your Ginger Fuhrer froths, "I hate my bank. Not because of debt or anything but because I hate being sold to - possibly pathologically so - and everytime I speak to them they try and sell me services. Gold cards, isas, insurance, you know the crap. It drives me insane. I ALREADY BANK WITH YOU. STOP IT. YOU MAKE ME FRIGHTED TO DO MY NORMAL BANKING. I'm angry even thinking about them."
So, tell us your banking stories of woe.
No doubt at least one of you has shagged in the vault, shat on a counter or thrown up in a cash machine. Or something

Me: Ok so you want to withdraw [GDP of small country] from your account. Do you have [required forms of ID]?
Customer: Cunting Bastard / Don't you know who I am / girlfriend is ill in hospital / been banking with you for years / bloody jobsworth / See your manager / only got my gala bingo card on me / but it's MY money !!!!
Etc.
Seriously though, seriously. Yes, many counter staff are feckless monkeys but the rules and procedures are there for a reason.
Some of you are moaning about situations where you'd expect to be given access to your accounts where ANY STRANGER OFF THE STREET would be able to do the same.
How can the counter person distinguish between you and a stranger. Did you go to school with them? Maybe they know your mother?
No, they don't.

Too much, or too little coffee this morning. One or the other.

But when you have FSA approved forms of ID, yet the bank still don't give you your money... well that's when we lose our tempers. And it's not banking staff in general I personally have a problem with. It's the witless, feckless, and the clueless whom we seem to be forced to deal with.
All we want is one shred of humanity- one shred of human decency. But no. You see it every now and then, and I've been quite lucky in myself with my bank. However, in the past I've dealt with complete berks who seemed to just enjoy making life difficult despite the fact that I bent over backwards to their demands.
So it's not all banking staff I personally have a problem with.

There are feckless and petty morons everywhere - it's that just having worked in various service roles over the years (including many years in call centres whilst a student), my conclusion is that the customers themselves comprise the largest majority.

However, when presented with politeness and (what I hope to be) a cheery smile, perhaps a little reciprocation isn't too much to ask?

Working in a call centre being called all sorts of names under the sun for refusing to sign up a customer to an 18 month long contract which will earn me a fair whack in commission because "it's my girlfriend's account, she's not here at the moment, all I've got is the phone number, why won't that do?" Nope, sorry mate, the data protection act is there for a reason.
