blimeywe still use a live blade in Ninjutsu, and funnily enough the most dangerous part of the kata is returning the blade to the scabbard- done sloppily and you could lose a thumb, as it's all done be feeling the blade by sliding the blunt edge along the web of skin between the thumb and forefinger with eyes on the opponent at all times. thankfully despite accidents I can still count to 10 without taking my socks off
