The Goat writes, "Some books have made a huge impact on my life." It's true. It wasn't until the b3ta mods read the Flashman novels that we changed from mild-mannered computer operators into heavily-whiskered copulators, poltroons and all round bastards in a well-known cavalry regiment.
What books have changed the way you think, the way you live, or just gave you a rollicking good time?
Friendly hint: A bit of background rather than just a bunch of book titles would make your stories more readable

I was recommended to read this by a man I vaguely knew; he waxed lyrical about it, lent me the book, I thought it was pretty good, but utterly depressing.
I ended up having a brief affair with that man. He was 16 or so years older than me, and married. It felt completely wrong (didn't know he was married when we first started), so I ended it with him very quickly.
From that point on, I just can't bear the thought of reading this book, it brings up too many bad memories, even though I liked it when I read it.
