This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

Cheap booze
Is the Tower in Hull still open? Student night on a Wednesday was a grim affair, but the enticement was the 20p pint. Oh, God. The women's rugby teams of two universities could be described as cheap tat, too.

On the other hand, denizens of Hull might also be familiar with Spiders, which was a heaven of cheap booze - notably, in the form of their version of the pan-galactic gargle-blaster. For the uninitiated, take a pint glass; insert one measure each of vodka, pernod, galliano and blackcurrant cordial; add a bottle of fresh orange juice; throw in a bit of ice; top up with dry cider; charge £2.30 for the lot. Falling over was inexpensive and easy :)

woo hull
Tower doesn't exist anymore (apparently it shut in 2000, I got here in 2003), but the students union runs a night called "The Tower" on Wednesdays with the same DJ and that. unfortunately the days of 20p pints are long gone though, cheapest you can get there is a pint of Snakebite for £1.20.

Spiders is still going strong, although they recently put their drinks prices up :( (only by about 20p or so, but it's still a bit of a kick in the nuts).

20p pints? Thats just too wrong to even contemplate
Flacketts in Stoke, however, have had £1 a pint Mondays for at least the last 10 years and still going strong, while all their competition have gone out of business and reopened, charging silly money for pints.

Spiders
Ahh, many a night with good music killing myself with PGGBs.

Of course everything went to shit around 2001, when the music took a nosedive straight into children's records.

Ah... I last went to Spiders in June 1998, and have fond memories of watching the sun rise from the top of a warehouse the outside of which E, D and I climbed afterwards. Sad that it's declined since then.
