Cheap Tat
OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."
Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.
What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

Cheap, but definitely....
Not useless.
Here I am wandering around Cash Converters(The local chain of Hock-shops) and I see a second hand Palm pilot TX, unboxed, no manual, but with charger and aluminum case, along with three 2 gig SD cards. hmmm, poke around for the price tag, don't find one, so ask the manager about that "calendar thingy in the display case" and pointed to it, he pulled it out, and it didn't have a price anywhere.
He also admitted he wasn't really sure what it was.
So what does he offer me for a almost brand new, damage free, (at the time) Current year Palm Pilot?
Seventy Australian dollars.
My response? "For a fuckin' calendar thing, You've got to be joking. How about you thirty?"
To which came "How about forty?"
"Fair enough, we have a deal."
And that, my friends, is how I got a (at the time) Four hundred dollar, Near Brand new palm Pilot for forty bucks.
Length, about four inches, but all but a quarter of an inch is screen.

I don't suppose you could get me a decent Pocket PC for a similar price?
Haha you screwed them good. They're meant to sell the stuff on at a ridiculous markup.

It was sheer luck I found it
but you never know, aye.
They generaly sell for half of retail, the only problem is they're happy to sell for half of retail when the item no longer sells for that much.
Also, they buy for half of what they sell for, even for new, in box items.

All sounds well and good,
but you do realize that parts are proprietory, and if anything goes wrong chances of finding a repair shop for a TX are minimal. Even for a sync connector.
We steer people well away from the Tungsten TX......

*Shrugs*
Doesn't bother me, Mate of mine works for a joint that sells and repairs Palm pilots, and he can get "His" Palm pilot repaired for free - and all I have to do is either pay for shipping, and failing that, Hand it over to him, which is quite easy, as being a flight attendant, I get within driving distance of his place quite regularly.
