This is a question What nonsense did you believe in as a kid?

Ever thought that you could get flushed down the loo? That girls wee out their bottoms? Or that bumming means two men rubbing their bums together? Tell us about your childhood misconceptions. Thanks to Joefish for the suggestion.

Until a ridiculously late age (late teens)
I thought that you weren't supposed to take sweets from strangers because the bastards would have put poison in them.

Stranger Danger was the worst campaign ever.
When we were about 19 or 20, I once asked one of my friends to jump out of the car and ask for directions. She outright refused because "Stranger Danger". She got really upset when we called her on it. "They taught us that in primary school", she said, "they wouldn't lie to you at school."

Stranger Danger was like warning people who've never heard of sharks about the danger of shark attack, but not being allowed to mention 'sharks' 'teeth' 'jaws' or 'biting'. You're just going to make people irrationally afraid of water.

It would be OK if there was a post-primary school debriefing session where they said "hey - you know that stranger danger thing? It was about paedophiles. Don't be scared of strangers - most of them are lovely."

I believed that too.
I think it was about the same time I read 'Danny Champion of the World' where they put sleeping tablets in raisins, mind.
