I was an unusual childNever told anyone this, but I remember being taken shopping by my parents when I must have been about four years old. Possibly younger.
We'd gone down into a subway, and then came out the other side.
I spent three years thinking we'd gone through some sort of portal into another world.

I was wary of subways and underpasses as a kidPerhaps it was because they always smelled of piss and had nasty people in them in films I'd seen as a kid and I firmly believed I'd be murdered if I set foot in one alone.
