I always thought spearmint was...a bit artificial, and a newer development from peppermint. I guess it was from the fact that the original Polos were peppermint, and then discovering the spearmint flavour later. It was only 'til very recently I learnt that peppermint is a cross-breed between watermint and spearmint.
