We had 2 Aussie girls worked in our office who had a similar system.They'd write their address on the palm of their hand before a night on the piss, so they could just show it to a taxi driver.

That's odd. Aussie girls in the UK usually just show their clunge to the taxi driver. It may have been a more purposeful place to record their home address.
Besides, creepers like Shambolic may read it from their hand. That's far too gruesome an outcome to contemplate.
