When my parents were poorMagictorch has reminded me - I asked for a pair of shoes as a Christmas present - I was desperate for some Kickers, which were worn by everyone at school at that time. Now, when my christmas present was handed to me, it felt the right weight, right size - I was so excited! And when I opened it, it was a shoe box - oh the glee!
Then I opened the shoe box and found 2 pairs of tights, a wooden pencil case, a bottle of supermarket own brand shampoo, and a hair brush. I was devastated.
Luckily Kickers became unfashionable very soon after that, I grew up a little bit, and my hair is still lovely.
