I've thoroughly liked all his films that I've seenand for different reasons, so I don't think it's just "This is meant to be good so I'll enjoy it" syndrome.
I think the way he paces his films is unusual and I really like it, but I know a few people who really hate them because they feel they drag on needlessly.
I guess he's something of a love-him-or-hate-him director.
