Sounds familiar.I am also the only one in my house acquainted with the hoover- one of my flatmates asked after two years of living here how it worked. I also can't remember the last time any of them removed their washing from the dryer- I used to fold it up but now I just leave it on the floor as the dog likes to clean her face on it after she's eaten. Trouble is, I know they don't care- one of them goes to Edinburgh every year for the festival, and he will live in absolute squalor and not mind it. So if I don't do it, no one will.
