I discovered the nut problem quickly enoughand my mate helpfully pointed out my faux pas by saying, "You daft bastard, they're pistachios!"
"nggg-I mmmknow fffthat nmnm-now", I replied, looking around for some way out of the situation.
I sidled back up to the buffet table, grabbed a napkin or two, discreetly* spat the nuts out into it and casually* stuffed the package into a convenient hedge.
*probably not, because there was drink involved too.
