This is a question My Biggest Disappointment

Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Well, Freddy, you are supposed to get someone else to wear them.

What's disappointed you lot?

Solar power
would work perfectly and be a great solution to the energy crisis, if:

1 - it becomes economically viable, which it won't until the price of oil gets much higher than it is currently (although with the rate of increase it may be sooner than previously thought);
2 - we can find some efficient way of storing the energy. Pump storage reservoirs are a good interim solution, but suitable sites in the Sahara desert are hard to come by; or
3 - we develop a global power grid, such that some part of the sunlit side of the earth is generating power.

Until then, it's not going to happen.

Nuclear fusion (essentially locally manufactured, small scale solar power, in a way) would be another great solution, as there's plenty of deuterium around. But it's been 50 years in the future for the past 50 years. And even though the ITER project is coming along nicely, it's not going to be a commercial reality for a long time.
