Oh, and by the way...the character I based Manisha on is a real person. Everything was true up to the time she went to Southampton uni.
She returned to South Africa after Mandela's release with a doctorate in palliative care, and now heads up the programme for treating those dying of AIDS in South Africa.
Thank God she never got together with me! She'd probably be working at Jimmy's in Leeds.
