I really hate the open door myself.I've lived with women who were very comfortable using the toilet in front of me. I, however, did not share their comfort with this. I by far prefer to keep some distance in that department. I don't want to see or hear someone in the bathroom if I can avoid it, and if I can't avoid it there had better be a door between us. Same applies to noises that I make.
