An old girlfiend of mine was third-generation GermanHer nan had married a British soldier at the end of the war. Somehow he never seemed too bothered by the fact that pride of place on the mantelpiece went to a photo of her childhood sweetheart, who was killed on the Eastern Front. And the photo had him in full SS uniform. Bit creepy?
