I'm calling bullshit on thatAccording to Chambers Etymological Dictionary, the word "halitosis" dates from 1874 while Listerine was formed in 1879 and the mouthwash product didn't go on sale until 1914. Apparently they did coin the phrase "chronic halitosis" in 1921 but that's all.
